Odessa

Odessa is one of those small podunk towns where thinks its cool if we get some new store or something…hell, it doesn’t even have an APPLEBEES! if you look hard enough, you’ll find a few people there worth being friends with…but most of the townfolk are just closed-minded small town idiots…With the exception of my few friends that still live there, I hate this city with a passion…I lived there from birth-18 yrs old…and I’m SOOOO glad I got away…not worth visiting…but if you can put up with the lack of intelligence there…you can try.

i lived in midland (the neighboring town for you who don’t know it)….and it sux just like midland….the only thing i liked was that it had the bigger mall and more stuff like that than midland….but basically it sux…when i was telling my husband about the area, and how the only hills were the overpasses, he didn’t believe me and when we flew there just over a yr and half ago to visit my parents, he was like "Holy Sh*t!!! this place does suck!!!)…so unless you are really into dry flat areas and football, not worth it except as a pit stop on a road trip…

the people are friendly for the most part…if you wave when driving down the street in any of the decent neighborhoods, most will wave back…but this is Christian/Republican territory..so if you are liberal just a little bit or “different” be careful what you say or do…this is part of the reason i had to get out of there…there is such a close-mindedness towards anyone “different” (ex: gay, stoner/skater/goth, multiracial couples even to some extent…..etc)

I was moving down here. I do not (DO NOT) recommend moving here if you have kids, as most of the schools here are terrible (unless you are stuck up rich football goers). The 2 high schools here are rivals, of course, and it’s basically a rich versus poor type thing. Pretty much it seems that the rich kids go to Permian and the poorer kids go to OHS. Permian always gets what it wants. I went to school there for 5 months, then I moved because it was HORRIBLE. Oh well. I guess it could be worse, eh? Beware: People here are also very close minded. Many will be rude to people that look different. It’s kinda one of those “Christian” towns where everyone’s a hippocrite. It’s an ok town aside from all of that. Boring, but ok.

Born and raised in Odessa. I graduated from Permian High School in 2000 and quickly got out of town. Worth a visit, if only to eat at Rosa’s.

I graduated from Odessa Permian in 1967 and didn’t go back to Odessa for 30 years. The people are friendly, so I’d say that it’s worth visiting for their sake, but only if you love lots and lots of flat land for miles and miles and miles. Not someplace I’d ever want to live, but again I do have a small bit of loyalty to it.

All I saw when I was here was Bail Bonds and Pawn Shops. The landscape is the exact same as here in Amarillo, flat nothingness, so it wasn’t very visually intersting for me outside of town either. I have a few friends down here, so I will come back, but I wouldn’t recommend anyone go on a “vacation” of sorts to Odessa.

Not much to do, would rather live in some place bigger, like Dallas or even Lubbock…

I have been in Odessa all my life. The current scene is drugs and alcohol. I would not reccomend coming here. If you do, be careful, and learn a little Spanish, because there are a lot of illegals here? Why, i don’t know. A VERY dangerous place to drive in.

I don’t dig the west texas atmosphere- sorry odessa, that includes you.
