Why I recommend this place to locals
I friggin dare ya to show me anything better one a cold misty morning than the “My Favorite” omlette with potatoes and scone.
Seriously.

Yep, no more Dav. I wonder where he works now?

We tried, with friend Mackro, on Monday (Labor Day), but were thwarted – the Dish is always closed on Mondays! The following day, we were to have breakfast with friends at Señor Moose in Ballard. Except, Señor Moose is always closed on Tuesdays!
So, breakfast at the Dish Cafe on Tuesday was great – busy but not so much we couldn’t get a table for 4 right away. Fast service and tasty food. I had the Roma scramble: italian sausage, tomato, basil, mozzarella, served with a side of breakfast redskin potatoes.

I did it. Today I completed my conquering of the breakfast menu. It was no small feat… but it was tasty.
They had chicken fried steak special on July 1st. I love it when they have chicken fried steak.
Ask for the Iguana Gold hot sauce (they’ve been out lately, I keep meaning to take a few bottles in). It goes great on everything, espicially the sausage gravy.

I haven’t had a bad meal at The Dish. In fact I usually get multiple meals out of every visit. The Dish gets extra points for having self-serve coffee while you wait (or as I like to call it, “immediate coffee.”)
Don’t forget: cash or checks only

I’ve only been here once and I must go back. Yeah, you wait a bit, but that’s because it’s good and people are wanting to go inside and sit and eat. Which is a logical thing to do at a restaurant. Maybe I can make arrangements to eat through every one of their omelettes. (That would admittedly take a while.)

The only thing bad is everyone else already knows to go here. But they even make waiting fun…they provide coffee outside and chairs, it is quite the social scene on the weekends.
The owners are truly wonderful human beings, this is reflected in the great staff the attract and keep. Their servers are sweet, the food is fresh and delicious. Huge portions, watch out light eaters!
Classic bisquits and gravy, great omelettes, specials worth trying, breakfast burrito is so yum!
btw: reported problem with location because this really IS NOT in Ballard. Especially if you are walking, you’d much rather start in Fremont as it’s right on the west edge of “Downtown Fremont”, technically, I’d say it’s in Frelard.

I pretty much come here every Sunday. Despite the heavy crowds, and despite usually missing the final bus to get there before the very strict 1:45pm closing time and having to run or even cab there, I still try to make it. It completely rounds out my weekend. I feel incomplete without it.
Dav, the man, is one of the coolest people I know in town. If I only had time to talk with him about, well, just about anything, he’d be up to it. But he’s got to tend to a million happy patrons every second, so it’s all good.
My favorite dish: The Slacker Especial. It’s a combination of scrambled eggs, enchilada sauce, and moistened tortilla chip bits made into a delicious texture pound o’ fluff topped with salsa, sour cream, chopped green onions, and three round fresh corn tortillas… alongside their home potatoes, a slice of cantaloupe, and a choice of toast or scone. You also have a gazillion hot sauces to borrow—any type of pepper, any type of spice level, any purpose. Oh man, I want to go right now, and it’s days away!
I’m trying to get a regular posse of friends to come join in the decadence and friendliness. (Does the complimentary coffee-while-u-wait help?)
Oh yeah, there are options for everyone from vegans to carnivores. You’re not excused.
