Powell's City of Books

I love Powell’s but sometimes I find it a little too large and overwhelming. Powell’s also has some smaller locations and I particularly like the one on Hawthorne. It still has a great Powell’s feel but is a little more my scale.

If it were allowed, I would shack up in Powell’s. AWESOME!!!!!!!

I live in Portland and I love to visit Powell’s. It is fun to browse the bookshelves and also to hang out in the coffee shop. Powell’s has book readings almost every night. You can find the calendar at http://www.powells.com/events

If you are looking for a specific book check in at the help counters for the exact location. You can also look for the location on the website. Otherwise, you will not be able to find it!!!

The book store is about ten blocks from the Amtrak station, useful for planning a way to haul your stash back. Go south to Burnside, right on Burnside until you reach Powell’s. Return the same way, so you’ll not need to take the stairs down from the Broadway Bridge.

If the staff seem grumpy, don’t take it personally.

Plan to spend hours at this place, make a day (or afternoon) out of it. If you don’t, you’ll wish you had.

I got lost. If you go with friends, make a plan to meet up at a certain time or have cell phones. Be sure to get one of their maps. I should have and will next time.

One of the biggest bookstores west of the Rocky Mountains, this 5 store bookstore takes up one city block. Offering both new and used books, you can find just about anything here and cheap too!!!

I FINALLY MADE IT TO POWELL’S!

I think I could’ve stayed here forever had my boss not dragged me out. It’s like Disneyland for lit-nerds.
