Vieques

My family and I were here the week of Easter, which is when all the Puerto Ricans go on vacation to Vieques, too! The beaches were crowded with campers and there was a great celebratory vibe all over the whole island. This place has some of the cleanest, bluest beaches I’ve ever seen.

Loved this island. We got our open water scuba certification here with Blackbeard Sports. They were terrific and we had a wonderful time; I recommend them. I saw a sea turtle! Turtles are rad.

Spent 6 days down here on the hill side as spotters for ships qualifying for Naval gunfire support.

Most of the time we were on the beaches with cases of beer and no one around for what seemed like ever.

Sorry place to put an impact area but I wasn’t complaining at the time.

went there a year or 2 before the navy left. it was a strange and interesting place for a small, fairly well populated place—of course everyone was pushed into 2 areas at the time. the nature part of it was very impressive, especially the remote beaches within the bases. the social part was an odd mix (and all were mixed together) of young/old, drunk/sober, expats/tourists, poor/wealthy. the navy ‘occupation’ hung heavy on the local and expat minds with reason. i wonder what it’s like now?

We stayed at this bar/hotel (it only had like 4 or 5 rooms)... it was like the movie Cocktail where everything is on the beach. The bioluminescent bay was one of the most spectacular experiences in my life. I hope they keep the golf courses and other environmental hazards away since the pH has to be at a certain level and any slight change will kill the organisms (as happened in Jamaica).

SO pretty. I went to Media Luna and Blue Beach- or was it Red Beach? No matter, they were pristine, gorgeous the sand was like baby powder! It takes time and effort to get to Vieques. It was a day trip for me and the next time I go I’ll stay the night.
Leave your valuables at home though!

I want to go here so bad with my boyfriend. We are planning on going in 1 year 1 month and 3 days.

to swim in mosquito bay on vieques and to visit aricebo on the main island…

But after reading about bioluminescent bays, this place is on my list. I would love to see the bay and swim in it. What a wonderful experience that would be!

puerto rico was awesome, lots of bugs of course,
and we swam in a biolumenescent bay, which was mindblowingly amazing.
