Asbury Park

Besides having a close to always empty beach/boardwalk, Asbury Park is fun to explore. Look around at all of the old buildings, and just look into it’s history. It’s such an interesting place, I highly suggest exploring your way to the roof of convention hall! I try to get to Asbury about once a month, and there’s always something new to see!

The last time I went there was the first time I went there. It was amazing to see all those buildings and all that history you could just tell it had. It was just amazing the feeling you could get. It was crazy to see how you could just tell that this little beach town used to be so alive at one time, and now it has dulled down. Its crazy to see. I loved the nostlgia that was there.

All the cool places are closing! Stony Pony – gone! Wonderbar – gone! The HoJo – Gone! They’re building condos everywhere. I miss doing Big Art Shows There. It was like a big, defunct old carnival on the beach.

I went here mainly because Springseen is from there.

I generally feel a bit melancholy when walking the boardwalk here nowadays. When I was little, I remember riding some rides that were old enough that my mother rode them when she was little. It made for some great family photos.

,,,i have lived here for 12 years and have seen many changes,,,for example, the downtown area 12 years ago was filled with drug dealers and hookers,,,now we have art galleries and boutiques!,,,residential areas have been improved with lots of new people moving in,,,the beach is clean and beautiful,,,of course, there are still some problems as is true of any city,,,but, on the whole, we are on an upward path,,,and bruce continues to drop in occasionally,,,:-)

I was utterly fascinated by Asbury Park the first time I saw it, as at the time there was all manner of abandoned buildings right along the shore (nothing creepier than an abandoned carousel), empty boardwalk, and the rusting, bombed-out looking skeleton of a high-rise that had been left unfinished sometime in the 80s (this has been torn down now). It’s livelier now, but still fairly interesting, from an urban decay kind of perspective.

I moved to Asbury Park 3 years ago and I absolutely love it. There are some really bad neighborhoods. Stay away from anyplace South of Asbury Avenue and West of Memorial. (Southwest Asbury)

Northwest is a great place to live. 70% of my street are new owners who care about the upkeep of their property. Many, including myself, have renovated their homes completely.

Downtown is starting to look really nice. Most of the buildings have been renovated or in the process of being renovated. There are so many great restaurants. My favorite being Bistro Ole on Main and Madison. Great Portuguese/Spanish food. Also, a new Japanese restaurant Taka. Carmines recently opened up here too. There are a lot more.

We have a great party scene too. The saint, ASBURY LANES (my fav), Paridise (gay bar open to straight people too), Wonder Bar and so many more.

This change is happening for real this time. Every year that passes, it gets nicer and nicer.

Plus, the beach is clean and only cost 30 for the season. On the weekends, live bands play on the beach. Its great. Please come see!

Worth visiting for a concert, or maybe to take some pictures. Otherwise stay away. It’s an abandoned boardwalk. But I had a great time!

Warped Tour!!

Last time I was there, it was a ghost town.. but I saw Warped at the convention center like 3 years in a row =] (before switching to Randalls Island) and then almost got crushed at an Incubus/Deftones concert.
