Molokini

There are a couple of groups offering a combined kayaking and snorkeling trip that leaves from Maui and paddles across a couple of miles of the channel (that’s the ocean between the islands) to the backside of the crater. I really want to do this during the whalesighting season when the humpbacks are surfacing all over the channel. This is my ultimate float trip.

Its a great place to snorkel, although the crowds can be a bit much.

Totally recommend the crew of the Lani Kai for coming out snorkeling at Molokini!

It is best to snorkle here in the morning…the earliest boats are best as the water is clearer and more fish to see.

If you’d asked me three years ago if I, a non-swimmer, would jump off a boat in sunken volcanic crater and snorkel, I’d have told you you were nuts. Molokini is such a beautiful place, and I’m talking about the submerged part. The early morning boatride from Maui Dive Shop was really pleasant and only had another 12 people on the boat….not the hundreds on the big party boats. I learned to get over my fear of water and enjoy the fish, eels, rays and frigate birds in this protected wildlife sanctuary.

IF YOU VISIT MAUI, THIS IS A MUST-SEE!

I am watching season 2 of Amazing Race on GSN. The final 3 teams just went to Molokini Island. It is soooo beautiful. I totally want to go there if I can ever get to Hawaii.
