Iowa State Fair

No disrespect to Iowa, I’m not a state fair kind of gal. If anything, Iowa’s kicked Illinois’ and Missouri’s ass, on account of the butter cow.
It was a good excuse to go somewhere I otherwise wouldn’t have. Dylan played an almost all acoustic show. I was on the rail. Good times : )

This is as Iowan as it gets! Every Midwestern stereotype you can think of is embodied here. Dress for HOT temperatures, and bring a big appetite, because there is tasty fattening food everywhere. Lots of fun!

we have everything here, just like all fairs. Animals, rides, games, food, music, show. place you can just spend all day in… Love going here every year.

You can get almost every food fried there.

I am 36 years old and I have only missed the Iowa State Fair one year that I can remember. It has always been a “father-daughter” event in my family. The one year I did not go was the summer my son was born, it was too hot to take him at such a young age. I tried to sneak out of the house with him though!
Must see and do on a yearly basis!!!!

I’ve been there at least once every year in the last 22 years.
Any kind of food on a stick(pork chop is excellent), horse shows, free concerts, and cold beer. the people watching is worth the trip.

that was a sight! I go as a designated adult with the kindergarten class my sister teaches.they are a all year school and give passes to the inner city kids to go. It’s a blast to see all the little kiddos see a cow or a hog for the first time. last fall i had a little girl pertified of a horse set her hand on mine then slide her fingers between mine just to touch the horse. you know my sister said she would not stop talking about that for the whole week . thats the kind of experience that the fair is all about . helping people that don’t know find out about new things. I’m also proud we made it into the BOOK

I try to make a day of it each year. Fun food, heat, farm animals & THE BUTTER COW!

I love the Iowa State Fair! I go at least twice every year. The free concerts are the best.

So I picked up a copy of that book and saw that the Iowa State Fair was in it. I live in St. Paul, Minnesota (about a 5 hour drive), so my friends and I decided to check it out… lots of fun, lots of state fair food (like fried cheese on a stick), but nowhere near as big or as kitchy as the Minnesota State Fair. Thumbs up, but if you can only get to one come to Minnesota!
