Queen Mary

The last time I went to this place

It was in 1975. I went on the classic tour, heard the stories including the liner being used during WWII to transport troups to England. I believe my father-in-law may have sailed on this ship when he was transported to England before D-Day.
Previously, back in December, 1967, we went to the beach to watch the Queen Mary sail in. I think it was suppose to be her final voyage. All I remember about it was it was very cold, even for Southern California and even colder at the beach.

The first time I went to this place

I especially enjoyed the ghost stories. I had totally forgotten that the Queen Mary was once named “The Grey Goose” during WWII.

What I want to do at this place

Would be fun to see the Rocky Horror Picture Show on board.

This ship has so much history (and has the been the setting for many movies and TV shows, including the X-Files!). It also has quite a few ghosts, apparently.

There is a lavish champagne brunch on Sundays, and you can even stay in the same suite that Winston Churchill used. Definitely worth a second visit.

Went here after dinner in long beach. Very cool place to visit. Stand on the platform outside of the bar and take a picture of the colored bridge across the bow.

A tip I have about this place

My favorite thing here is the WWII exhibit. Also, I saw the Titanic travelling exhibit while it was there, which I really liked. Ghosts and legends was pretty cool too, showed you some famous parts of the ship you don’t normally see.

My husband and I just got married and spent our wedding night on the Queen Mary. It’s got a very spooky quality about it because there are portions of the ship that are just dead silent. It throws you off a bit, especially if you are from a metropolitan area and have become used to white noise.

Our room was on B-deck and we spent 170.00 for it which made the broken bathroom toilet and towel hanger, non-working lights and broken phone really inconvenient. Still I would love to go back, but I’d really like for the service quality to be of a higher standard.

Oh, we were bad...

I was with my wild girlfriend, who knew the ship well because she’d worked several events held on board. It was late at night, and we explored all sorts of off-limits places, including inside the ship’s hull!

My then-teenaged kids were with us and they thought it was a blast to break the rules, family-style. I’d never have done this on my own but have to admit it was a thrill.

Is it really haunted?

I was just there this past week. We saw the famous swimming pool where the little girl often makes an appearance. We did not see her. We went into the lockerroom area to experience the vortex and blue light … it was the first tour of the day that supposedbly did not experience the blue light, although one of the men in the group said he was feeling cold and dizzy.

Around Door 13 in the bowels of the ship where “John” was crushed by a door nearly 40 years ago, there is a TV down there that is unpluuged. I guess John likes to turn on the TV even when it unplugged. While we were there it tried to come on a couple of times. Was it John? I don’t know. I am a bit skeptical.
