A tip I have about this place

Look up and enjoy the beautiful 17th-18th century graffiti covering the ceiling. Puts those swirling spirals into a new, snarktastic perspective!

Don’t be late for your bus appointment! If you like archaeological books, take a big backpack- bookstore is fabulous!

Why I recommend this place to visitors

One of my favorite places. I loved visiting this pre-Christian site & exploring. Really wonderful. Its always interesting to visit something that has been in existance for so long.

A review of this place: Better prepare for a long wait, or not to get in at all

We visited Newgrange in April, 2006. We arrived relatively early in the day, but even though the tourist season had barely begun, we were told that all the tours for the day were booked up, and we would not be able to get close to Newgrange itself unless we were with a tour. So we basically got a nice view of it from the road, from a quarter mile distance.

womb tomb of the ancient goddess callieach

this site although quite gentrified is the best of the neolithic/iron age sites on hErin. i spent a lovely day with a woman i met on the bus wandering the site looking at the carvings on the kerbstones. i was suprized that the docent on our tour knew so little about the folklore of the site. he mentioned only aengus to whom the site was renamed, but was unfamiliar with the zeus style theft of the site by dagda, bestowing it and the goddess associated with it on his son aengus. beautiful in the late spring when the flowers are in bloom and the air is full of bees. i wanted to run naked through the grass and swim in the boynne, but my companion was having none of it, it still being a bit chilly for such wickedness.

WOW 5000+ Years old

Enjoyed poking round this spot several times. It’s a ‘must see’ if you have an interest in ancient history.

Newgrange

It’s worth visiting, but when I was there it was too crowded and the tour was dominated by Italians who had brought their own interpreter who kept live interpreting the Irish guide’s explanations. Couldn’t wait to get away from the group.

It’s a hard place to get to if you don’t have transportation.
