A tip I have about this place

We’ve been going to Cape May almost every year for the last 10 years now. We especially like to go in December when there are far fewer crowds and all the victorian houses are decorated for Christmas. We can’t help but take pictures of the same houses year after year and, of course the beautiful sunsets over Sunset Beach!

A review of this place: Finally...

...a place on the Jersey Shore that doesn’t look like everywhere else on the Jersey Shore.

Why I recommend this place to visitors

Ohhh! Sweet, precious, priceless Cape May! A family tradition for nearly 70 years on my Momma’s side of the family. It is located in the Bible Belt below Atlantic City. We go every August as a family and it’s the sweetest place on God’s green planet! I am incredibly thankful for this little piece of heaven on earth! It’s quaint and Victorian, yet filled with shops old and new, and sporty outlets of all types, with good eats ever abounding! The lighthouse, walking tours, carriage rides, gingerbread houses, beaches, boardwalks, sights, bird-watching, ferry boats, sunsets, etc. just make life worth living! And every year worth looking forward to, too! On a scale of one to ten (ten being THE BEST!) I’d have to give it a 108! I kid you not! Once you go, you will visit again and again, drawn by it’s special lure.

I have a summer house in Cape May Point, and have been going there every year since I was born. It’s fabulous.

The last time I went to this place

After my son was killed, I was on my way to my Aunt’s house. It was raining, I had 3DoorsDown blaring, and I just wanted to keep driving… I needed to be at the ocean. I stopped at a Visitor’s Center on 95N and asked where the closest beach was. I drove to Lewes Deleware and took the Ferry across to Cape May, sat on the beach for hours and cried my eyes out. The ocean didn’t judge me, tell me not to cry, to be strong, or that he was in a better place. I wrote a message in the sand to my son. I found some peace on that beach as I grieved the loss of my only child…

I watched the golden sun set on the beach as I looked for shells among the thousands of tiny slimy snails. I didn’t find any shells, but I did find a pale pink stone, shaped like a heart with a crack down the middle. I saved it, as it was a symbol of my own heart.

My parents used to take me on vacations twice a year to Cape May when we lived in New Jersey. I loved hanging out on the beach and the island has some victorian charm to it.
