Harrods

Not worth it except for bragging rights

Pretty much an high-class department store.I walked in, walked around for a few minutes, and walked right out. The toilet paper in the bathroom is embroidered with silver leaves. The Lebanese restaurant looked pretty good, though.

Why I recommend this place to visitors

We went for the food. If I ever go back to London on a budget, I’ll buy food here everyday. The food was better than in the restaurants I visited in London, and some of it is reasonably priced. The oyster bar was pricey but very good. Probably the best oysters I’ve ever had, and they recommended this excellent white wine that went so well with them! Yum!

A tip I have about this place

Try not to let the crowds put you off too much – at the very least, wend your way to the Food Hall and salivate at all the displays. Biscuits and tea in pretty branded tins aren’t too expensive and make great souvenirs!

A review of this place

Well…the escalators were pretty cool and the live opera singer was a nice touch. =) I wouldn’t say this is a must when visiting London, though. It’s a gorgeous building inside (and out), but I’m not really a big fan of monuments to materialism, luxury, and needless expense.

Shopping anyone...

I went with my mother right before the Christmas holidays. The decorations were “brilliant.” Oh, and you had to pay to use the loo!

It was fun to see, but I didn’t buy anything… but I’m a New Yorker, so I could get almost everything they had at Harrod’s here at home. It’s a must-see if you’re in London, though!

A tip I have about this place

I had no idea that you needed to pay to use the Bathrooms in this store until the server brought our receipt for Afternoon Tea. This card is provided to customers of the cafe. We were given 3 passes. I didn’t really have to use the bathroom …but after receiving these passes, I thought , I’ve got to see what they looked like.. VEDDY,VEDDY,CLEAN-with a British accent!
I was greeted by an attendant in a crisp white apron who offered me a handtowel & lotion after I had washed my hands.
I offered her my GET OUT FREE card. In a case like this do you tip???

Harrods at Christmas

This week I decided that I should cross Harrods off my list of tourist targets. (I wonder what kind of search enginge hits ‘tourist targets’ will generate?) I popped into Harrods on my way home from a Christmas shopping excursion to Oxford St.

Harrods is obviously popular with the tourists, especially the blue rinse set. The place was packed with grannies. To me, it was a more expensive, more elaborate version of David Jones. Everything was crazy expensive; even the standard plastic Harrods branded carry bags were £14. I found the Food Hall to be the most impressive section. (Although, I could hardly move in there because it was so crowded.)

Unfortunately, claustrophobia prevented me from spending too much time in Harrods. I’m not sure if it’s always like that or if it’s a combination of tourists and Christmas making it so busy. Maybe one day I’ll venture back to see.

A review of this place

It’s amazing to walk around and just look at the stuff they sell, it’s quite price though and you can’t bring your backpack but have to leave it on another place that costed one pound when we where there 1997 and if you need to use the bathroom it costs another pound. It’s still fun to go there but make sure that you don’t have any backpacks and are nicely dressed.

A review of this place: A Letdown

I visited Harrod’s during their huge New Year’s sale. So you’d think I’d find SOMETHING to buy in this enormous store. Nope. I did try to buy a pair of shoes, and they couldn’t find the mate. And I spent most of my time completely lost. It was disappointing. And the Egyptian escalator and memorial to Dodi and Diana were just tacky.
