The Hamptons

Really beautiful, but unless you have money, it’s not really worth your time. Aside from expensive restaurants and shops the only other thing to do is go to the beach – provided you can afford a hotel room. It is nice to take a drive through and just look at all the ridiculous mansions made out of clapboard.

Was stationed at Ft. Monmouth for 3 years. Went up to the Hamptons a few times. Not into the whole scene. In fact, I guess one could say Im not really into the whole east coast beach scene. To each their own.

worth visiting to see excess money wasted. There are few nice towns, but most are gaudy/flashy. Most of the beach house are only used a few weekends a year.

During the summer: bikes/walking is faster then driving, the big money types fly out in helicopter/personal jet from NYC, else you take the train. Unless you throw money around, expect to spend several $100/night if you go out to dinner/bar.

A bit pretentious for my taste.

I probably would never buy a house here but it would be nice to know someone who has one. I wouldn’t mind seeing what all the fuss is about.

I can’t help it. I want to take the Jitney and go out! And I don’t know any stars! I wonder what the garage sales are like!

The Hamptons are two towns - Southampton and East Hampton - that contain several townships.

It is The place to go…still…after all these years. I don’t want a house there. I just want to know someone who has a house there. See you in the Hamptons dahling!

Sorry to offend any Hamptons lovers, but I think the beaches here are pretty disappointing, if you compare them to the beautiful ones on the Caribbean, or the ones tucked away in Rhode Island, or the ones in San Diego. I also dislike the stuck up attitudes of those who live in the mansions and the lame brou-ha ha over the ritzy nightlife and getting bottle/table service. Who wants to hang out with Lizzie Grubman types that frequent the Hamptons? They are train wrecks – thank you very much.
