The Liberty Bell

Worth visiting!

Liberty???

Am I the only one who saw the irony in the fact that the ‘liberty’ bell is guarded by the wackenhutt corporation (specialists in private prisons and refugee detention centres around the world), who submit you to an exhaustive search (they spent a long time looking at my insulin, for example) to get in to see… a rather small, cracked bell.

I first heard of this bell on the simpson’s when homer tried to pretend he had 3 liberty bells on his scratchie in the quick-e mart. I was also interested to find out it came from Whitechapel in London, not far from where my dad grew up.

Not worth visiting!

It closed at 4:45 and we got there at 4:50. But we got to see it through a window. The line to have gone in and see it was out to the street. I’d rather just see pictures of it online.

I’d love to go back, now having seen the movie “National Treasure” with Nicholas Cage.

The Liberty Bell

Why I recommend this place to visitors

This is an interesting piece of history. I enjoyed it. Maybe my lack of American History made it a fresh and interesting experience.

It’s cool to see once in your lifetime… but beware! It’s just a regular bell! Don’t get your hopes up.

it’s really not worth the long wait on line and through security. it’s important historically, but it is just a bell. besides, it’s visible from the street in front of the building.

The last time I went to this place

I got a really cool feeling seeing the bell. If it just seems like a bell to you, you aren’t getting it. There is so much more to it than that. So many take our rich history for granted. It’s not a place you go again and again but I think it’s definately something everyone that gets the chance, should stop and see it once in their life.

The Bell

I’ve been here when I was little in the early Nineties, and it was good, you could touch the bell and read what it says, I was a kid so I didn’t appreciate any of it, but I did like the bell none the less.

A tip I have about this place

As some people have said, it’s not worth driving out of your way to visit. It really is just a broken bell (it was fun to visit in elementary school when you could still touch it and go near it…now it has tons of security because some idiot hit it with a hammer years back), so don’t expect anything huge or incredibly interesting. It adds a fun touch to Philadelphia history, but it isn’t something to visit again and again.
