Science Fiction Museum And Hall Of Fame

Worth visiting!

Main reason for visiting: muppets

I love Jim Henson, and seeing Kermit, operating a muppet in a music video, and putting designs into the muppet fur walls was awesome. So cool to see early commercials and artifacts from not only sesame street but the dark crystal, fraggle rock, etc was awesome.

The regular exhibit is also fun, with memorabilia from film and tv, like a hover board from back to the future, guns from everything from blade runner to men in black, and even the original death star. There are also a lot of book copies from some of my favorite sci fi, and some I hope to read in the future. oddly, there aren’t novels for sale in the gift shop. But they did have bobble head ewoks and alien finger puppets.

A review of this place: Not Worth A Trip Byt Itself

If you’re not going to go to the EMP (which is in the same building) then don’t bother with the SciFi museum. The total floor space devoted to SciFi is trivial compared to the amazing exhibits in the music project, and the displays leave a lot to be desired. I’ve been a devoted fan of science fiction since I was a small boy, but this museum was absolutely not worth the time I spent here.

A review of this place: Fun, Geeky Time

I really enjoyed the museum. It was interesting and I learned a lot about the history of Science Fiction. There were many displays and props etc. from past movies and television shows. It was interesting to see old movie posters and robot replicas from the past 60 years. If you are not interested in Science Fiction, the museum will not change your mind. But if you have an interest or are a hard core science fiction geek, the musuem is a must see.

Worth visiting!

I was only here briefly for a post EMP pop conference reception...

...and all I know is that to get there I passed under one of the spinners from Blade Runner hanging in the air. And that was all I needed to judge this place as being cool. I’m so obvious sometimes.

Cool stuff.

Things you can see: the hoverboard from Back to the Future, a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, various Dune-related items, Star Wars stuff, tribbles from Star Trek, a cylon and daggit from Battlestar Galactica, etc. It’s expensive to get in, but if you’re into sci fi, it’s worth checking out.

I found the place to be quite cool, but then I was familiar with the vast majority of books and whatnot on display. It always surprises me how goofy movie costumes and props look in “real life”. There is not a whole lot of interactivity here, so be prepared to do a lot of reading and looking. This is probably not a place for people not really into science fiction; the various displays and exhibits did not seem interesting enough for the average person. My spouse seemed to find things amusing enough, but perhaps she was being polite.

I probably will not go back any time soon, but it was worth a visit.
