Fox Glacier

If you wanna skydive, this is the place for it! Forget Taupo….go sky diving in Fox Glacier instead! Beautiful scenery for your jump.

i just found it to a be a neat place. warm, friendly, and cozy. can’t wait to go back and go hiking on the glacier.

My family and I took a helicopter ride over the Franz and Fox glaciers at the end of last year (2005). It was stunning, we had an amazing view of a very isolated area of the world. Beautiful.

The walk over small mounds, through towering mountains, over pebbled streams and through dense green rainforests only enhanced the beauty of our final destination – The Fox Glacier. The snow and ice remains as though it has never moved, silently silhouetted between the green mountains.

Documentaries and journal reports do no justice to something so incredible as this, the only way to truly experience the wonder of a glacier is to see it face to face through your own eyes. It was a memorable experience

This trip was the hightlight of our tout in New Zealand. I think we paid just 400USD a person for what turned out to be a 2 day private, guided tour. There was another couple with a guide as well. We pitched our gear at the hut and summited. The guide hadn’t actually summited the rock peak before, only the snow. I was happy to belay and hit the top with him!

I took a hundrea photos of the glacier, but caught a special picture of the helicopter pulling Lydia Bradey off the mounatin after a few days training…

I was a little worn out by the time I visited Fox and I didn’t have a whole lot of time or money to spend on walking around on the glacier or any of the cool stuff. It was interesting, though, to walk up to a glacier, especially since I’d been in the Tazman Glacier’s terminal lake (on the other side of the mountain that Fox is coming down…) just a couple of days beforehand.

Worth the visit.
