Finger Lakes

The little houses on Canandaigua lake are really neat.

my granparents used to own a house right one of those smaller lakes, we used to go up every summer, i really loved it there.

Worth visiting are Buttermilk Falls, Taugannock Falls, the Cayuga Nature Center, First Baptist Church in DeWitt Park, the Cornell Lab of Ornithology (go for a walk in the woods out back), local farm markets, and Moosewood Restaurant. On your way out of town, drive the Finger Lakes Wine Trails and make sure you get to Knapp Vineyards. The Sangiovese is amazing.

I drove around this area in 1994 or 95 with friends and the area was stunningly gorgeous. We had driven with a friend from Kentucky all the way to a small town called Auburn, near Syracuse and we made our way into the Finger Lakes one day. I had only thought of New York as NYC until that day, and it really opened my eyes to the variety and beauty of the state.

I went to college on the tip of lake seneca. It is just amazing. It really changes your life to be by a body of water – stronger storms, more snow, better sunrises/sunsets. The whole lake is amazing. I’ve swam in it, ridden on a boat, even eaten the mud from it (Geoscience class dare). AMAZING.

Hubby and I are making our trip the the Finger Lakes Wine Festival a yearly event because we had so much fun the last two years. We have learned so much about wine and what we like. We have a great time. Plus, you can’t beat Watkins Glen in July!

It’s gorgeous up there. Trust me, it’s worth it to go. The fall is very pretty since you get to see all the foliage on the hills. Definitely bring your camera if you go.

Make sure you bring a nondrinking friend to drive and go wine tasting. Try it in the fall when the foliage is at it’s peak.
