Westminster Abbey

If you want to get inside the abbey for free, go to an evensong at 5:00 pm. Enjoy the view while you’re listening, though, because the guards are really strict about not letting anyone linger for sightseeing afterwards. I got to sit in Poets’ Corner, right next to Chaucer’s tomb, and I was able to see everything I wanted to on the way out.

Thanks to my students card I didn’t pay a lot (I really don’t remember how much…) and the audioguide was free!
The audioguide was in every language, and it covered all the Abbey!
I loved the Abbey itself, it was full of History and it was really well mantained :)
I really think that everybody who visits London should go for the Abbey!

The audio guides are free and offered in several languages, so make sure to get one! Learning about what I was looking at really enhanced my visit!

Like others have said, this is an overwhelming place. So much history, so many famous people buried or married here. I wonder if visitor numbers have increased due to the Da Vinci Code effect?

I’d like to revisit this place one day.

Be sure to get the cassette player and tape when you go inside. It is very confusing otherwise. There is so much to see, and you may miss some really interesting things otherwise. It is certainly worth visiting. Try going when there is not a tour group going through. Or better yet, go to one of the services.

...to think of all the dead and famous people buried/interred here. From kings to poets to actors to musicians, our tour guide was very helpful in making the place come alive and make things interesting. He spoke about various topics from the architecture to the history of the abbey to recent and modern events going on. Definitely recommended if you go to London.

Talk about sensory overload! There’s so much going on-visually-you can’t even take it in! Definitely put Westminster Abbey on the top of your must-see list in London—there are so many historic figures laid to rest here (including Chaucer! CHAUCER!) and you could wander around the gardens all day long. Like the Tower of London, the centuries of history are just overwhemling.

I went here just to see Mary Queens of Scots grave. It was really really interesting, and I love reading about her. It was great for a creepy, disturbing reason to know that WOW Mary is in that coffin! haha, Poets Corner was great, but yeah, it can get confusing if you don’t go about it in an organized manor!
