A review of this place

I lived and worked there for several months in 2001. On 9/11 gas prices at several stations were gouging and hiked up to amounts such as $5 a gallon. Besides the Cherokee Nation Casino and Heritage places, canoe/float river trip outfitters along Hwy 10, Lake Tenkiller, Green Country movie theater, Northeastern State Univ., and Wal-Mart, there’s really no more that significant to do or see there. Several vacant buildings and signs are abandoned for months and even years.

Beware of the city and county (in)justice systems there. DHS, judges and law enforcement are very arrogant, rude, and careless of laws and people’s rights. My child and I were deprived of each other, money and our rights there and turned into a hellish nightmare. I wish my first visit there was my last and only one. That has denegrated my feelings about the whole state. I now resent being born an Okie. There are other horror stories from Chickasha, Claremore, El Reno, OK City and Tulsa.

I went on a canoe trip here when I was ten. My canoe tipped over twice and I was pretty traumatized. I didn’t go on another canoe trip until I was around 22

Why I want to go to this place

I was born in Tahlequah but I haven’t gone back since then… I’ve been all over Oklahoma though.

tahlequah is awesome

this is an awesome place to go, especially during the summer….tons of cherokee cultural stuff, live entertainment, college town (fun bars, etc.), and of course – hanging at the river! canoeing, floating, swimming, camping….beautiful place.

very fun if you’re an outdoors-y kind of person, or interested in native culture.

i love living here!

Run Away

I dont recommend this place. It is so boring and dead. There isnt anything to do.There is no place to go for fun really. Walmart is like the biggest place here. I met some nice people for sure. And i am not knocking this place entirely. But not really a great place.

Yes, the Cultural Center of the Cherokee Nation is worth visiting! I have been there about 3 times, I used to go as part of the The Cherokee Heritage program I was in as a kid. I loved it, it was great to actually see how my ancestors lived back them. The Heritage Center is a great place to research Cherokee history.
