Yearly tradition

It has become a yearly tradition to go skiing in Beaver Creek. My wife’s family packs the whole troop up and heads for Beaver Creek MLK weekend every year. We stay in the village and really live it up for a week. Such a great place to stay, we go back every year!

A tip I have about this place

Park at Arrowhead and ski to Beavercreek. It makes for a great last run of the day and you can have drinks in the sun right at the lift outside the ski shop.

Beaver Creek

Out of the many places my company sent me for business over the years, this was BY FAR my favorite. The resort is fantasic! Even in July, there was tons of stuff to do—horseback riding, hiking, mountain biking, rafting, you name it. The year-round ice rink is fantasic as is the fire pit every night. I was also lucky enough to be on the side of the resort that overlooked a fox den so I could hear them barking and playing all night long. Easily one of my most favorite places ever.

News about this place

I’ve been here every summer for around the last 6 years. It’s nice and quiet with not a lot of annoying tourists and summer traffic. Holy Cross Wilderness south of the resort has some incredible hikes. I’ve done up 16 mile hikes in the area without passing more than 1 other person on the trail once I’m in the backcountry. The Tourquoise Lakes and Beaver Lake are great. I’ve hiked to the top of Beaver Creek’s ski mountain as well as Grouse Mountain. I plan to peak Jackson one of these days. You can take the lift to Spruce Saddle in the summer as well.

My FAVORITE Mountain… amazingly huge. We stayed at the Ritz here before it opened all the way (cheap), and it was amazing. They have their own lift outside the hotel…

I actally prefer skiing at Beaver Creek over Vail usually. Fewer people, usually same snow conditions, plenty of good terrain.

Cute little town

Very cute little town, similar to Vail and other surrounding ski villages. If you’re passing through the area and don’t have a lot of time, I would recommend only stopping in Vail. If you’re staying in the area though, it’s worth taking a short drive up to Beaver Creek-you can browse through the shops, ski (of course), and walk along trails in the hills (during summer).
