Guggenheim Museum aka: Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum

with summer travelers like me, great to go back and see the moving and enduring Louise Bourgeois.

Every first Friday of the month a disco is organised inside the museum…beautiful…especially get drunk near a Kandinsky’s paint…

One of the greatest modern museums, true to their reputation. This one is worth visiting for its beautiful and amazing architecture alone.

I went their last month to see the ‘El greco to el picasso’ exhibition- a tour into the Spanish painting. It was an amazing experience. Do check out the paintings in the permanent thannhauser collection.

This is a place that no lover of art coming to new york should miss.

Not the best modern and contemporary art museum in the city, and one of the most expensive. The Guggenheim occasionally has some great shows, but unless there is something specific there you want to see, I would suggest you check out the MOMA (Museum of Modern Art) instead.

The building provided the most conducive way to view art. Very crowded, you should go first thing in the morning. Purchase a City Pass to avoid waiting in the Looong ticket lines.

Ditto to what everyone else said, plus here’s a story.

One of my most prominent memories of the guggenheim was having lunch at the cafe with all the old jewish ladies. The one in the line in front of me asked them if they had any ‘Matzah’ (sp?), and she said ‘no…um…did you say “mustard”, yes we have mustard, down the end’ and she said ‘oh good thanks’ and I said ‘no she said “mustard”’ but it fell on deaf ears. When she got to the end she said ‘where’s the matzah?’ and she replied ‘oh i thought you said “mustard”, we dont’ have matzah’ ‘you don’t have it, then why did you tell me you did!!!? why don’t you have any matzah’... and so it went on. It was worth the cost of the food just for the entertainment :P

Frank Lloyd Wright must really have known what he was doing when he designed this place, because I seriously love the architecture of the building, and the then-current Russian exhibit was effin’ sweet.

If you are a FLW fan, run don’t walk. Okay, walking is fine too.
