Crazy Horse Monument aka: Crazy Horse Memorial

I have been twice…25 years apart and I really thought it looked wxactly the same as it did the first time.
Are they every going to finish?

This is incredible, really. Much better than Mt Rushmore, and of course that’s mostly the point. I fully intend to come back in 50 years to see the finished product.

The most profound spiritual experience I have ever had (so far) happened there.

SO boring…and it would have cost us $20 to get in! Mt. Rushmore is free except for an $8 parking fee! Sheesh.

But since we were newlyweds the lady at the gate let us in for free.

taking time to complete but a very good place to visit..

It didn’t look too much different than the first time.

Carving a mountain must be slow work.

It is such an amazing place. The monument is still a work in progress and is totally privatly funded. The artist was a great man. His family contiunes the work. Take the time to see the visitor’s center.

The Volksmarch at Crazy Horse (outside of Custer, SD) is the one time the family lets folks on to the blast sites and to climb the monument.The view from the arm is incredible.

On a two week tour in 1986 grandpa took my siblings and me here. This was the most wonderful vacation and South Dakota was just a drop in the bucket along the way.

Mt. Rushmore is free except for parking, Crazy Horse was $20 when we went. It doesn’t seem to move along very quickly. Maybe because people did what I did and turned around instead of paying and going in. Maybe when it is completed it will be worth the trip
