Appleton

Strange thing about this place. There are apple trees near the town. Its kinda like an apple town, or something.

My brother goes to school here. He loves it. It’s so beautiful.

you like strip malls full of dollar stores and junk outlets; parking lots/ramps, single use one-story buildings set 200 feet back from frontage roads, car lots and their rediculously rich owners who think they know what’s best for appleton and the fox valley; chain restaraunts (both fast food and “sit-down” style), walmarts/greens where there could be family owned pharmacies, groceries and general stores; $150G condos with a gas station for a back yard that’s surrounded by $80-$100G homes with their own yards and garages (yes Richmond Terrace, I’m looking at you), retirement homes, grumpy people; giant performing arts centers that take up several city blocks and render them all ugly, and all but one useless; cookie-cutter mansions and suburban sprawl (ever hear of “infill”?); public transit that no one uses; and a disconnected community full of NIMBYs that’s not worth caring about.

Its a good place to go to shop, eat, hang out with friends, and have fun…. more stuff then small towns that are around that area.

The Fox River runs through this quiet but trendy town. Beautiful houses and friendly people are everywhere!

And the people are friendly, honest, and hardworking.

in 1976, having hitchhiked there in February to see about a girl. Appleton, north of Oshkosh on the Fox River, is a pretty enough mill town redolent of acid from paper production. Lawrence University seems like a good school.
