Dam aka: Dam Square, The Dam

It’s a square, people watching, sure you get the idea.

Just to meet up with friends and go for a wander, which we then proceeded to do. But I enjoyed my brief visit, and it was perfectly obvious why it was such a popular spot—open area, good location, tons of people watching, plenty easy to hang out and just relax and enjoy life. Which I can do, as I’ve muttered on here before, to be sure…

lots of drugs and sex good shopping but not much else

Amsterdam is the coolest city ever. Here’s the Square at dusk. :)

dam square is pretty much the center of tourism in amsterdam theres tons of shops around there and u can take the tram pretty much anywhere from there u can hear good music have lunch in the square the royal palace is also there(even though no royals occupy it)dam square is good fun and if u want to stay right on it (pretty much) a good hotel is the die port van cleve..its really nice

Between Damrak and Kalverstraat the Dam Square is another tourist trap, although not at all as bad as Leidseplein. On Damrak all the tourists and other travellers come in with the train from Schiphol airport and the rest of the country. The locals quickly hurry away from the area, but the tourists tend to get caught in useless tourist shops with Amsterdam-t-shirts and other Amsterdam-ware. Or they stop in front of Teasers – the near-topless bar – to catch their breath.
Everyone should stop at the Manneken Pis french fries shop to have some of the best fries in Amsterdam with a wide selection of sauces.
