Yuma

Came for WTI. Isolated place with very little to do. Kind of like Jacksonville, NC in the desert!

The Marine Corps thought it would be funny to stick us here for 4.5 years….it turned out to be a great experiance for us all, and I would love to visit agian someday!

There are very few places in the world where you can find a peanut farm in the middle of citrus groves, with a camel ranch, and an ostrich farm just down the road.

Once outside of the city itself, on the county roads, the most interesting and unexpected locales reveal themselves. There are rodeo grounds, stables, and ranches for the horse lovers. There are numerous spots along the recently restored Colorado for sports and picnics. There are casinos the roads out of town in two directions.

In short, there are few places in the U.S. that so aptly represent the diversity, independence, and willingness to go it alone, in a new direction of the cowboy spirit that built the town in the first place.

It was 105 in the shade. I thought I was going to DIE.

Up until recently, Yuma was the huge, empty, dry town that you wondered “Why the hell would anyone live here?” while you drove through it on your way to California on I-8. However, recently it’s been booming and big businesses and entertainment is starting to fill the expanse. I wouldn’t recommend going there yet, but soon it might be worth the stop.

Ate at my first Cracker Barrel here. Now, I’m in love with them.

Other than that, the place is nothing special.

Ugggh .. boring. AND HOOTTT!! It was 105 degrees and my mom’s car AC wasn’t working. The plastic inside the car was melting and it was so sad. We had to run in McDonalds just to splash water on our faces and then run back out into the car.

This isn’t a desination for foodies. There are miles of fast-food joints.
However….if you explore a little bit, you might just find an incredible treasure – the chateau basque. Just don’t go hungry!
