The Big Texan

Sure its not really a 5 star restaurant, but its like a Hard Rock Cafe, you go just so you can say, “You’ve been there”. Except, unlike the HRC, there is only 1 of these.

Tourists still flock to this place like it’s one of the Seven Wonders of the World but basically it’s nothing more than a pimped out steak house with a big fibreglass cow out front.

Only fans of angina and the American obesity epidemic would attempt the free 72 ounce steak scam.

this place was fun. The big cow rocked my socks, and the meat was cool. :D You would love it, even if Amarillo sucks.

As a local I’m just not that impresesd. There’s many resturants which have better food and cooler people.

A great atmosphere with friendly people, and a lot of interesting things to look at. There are limos with bull horns on the front, cowboy chaufers, a gift shop, a giant rocking chair, painted motel, giant bull, great food and of course the huge-ass steak dinner you get to watch people try to eat. This was only one of many stops on a cross-country drive, but definitely one of the most fun and memorable places.

Just don’t ask yourself how they grow oysters in the mountains. The big steak is BIG, and you have to eat all the sides too in order to get it for free. If I remember correctly, you can order rattlesnake too.

I’ve never eaten the big steak. It’s only free if you eat the whole thing (fat and all) plus all the side dishes. It’s fun to go and have a regular size steak and see other people attempting to eat the big steak. There’s a wall of fame that lists all the people who have eaten the big steak. It’s tourist-y, but fun!
