Lincoln Memorial

On a particularly rainy night a group of friends made our pilgrimage out to go see Abe.
It was mind blowing. maybe it was the rain, maybe it was the company, but definitly something everyone has to go see once.

Worth doing once.

This place is bigger than life.

who doesn’t want to climb a ton of steps to see a giant statue of Abe Lincolon, the man with the tall hat!

It was just a statue, but nice. I went with a school group, and an Art History teacher. When we got there you could tell who had been in the Art History class by who ran to the side to see if you could see the profile of Andrew Jackson. We had to get the teacher to point it out to us though.

Which might sound flippant, but is not meant to be. As a shrine to Lincoln-as-concept/martyr - when he was alive, Lincoln most definitely was not the focus of universal admiration, north or south! - it’s deeply sorrowful and moves on to reflect greatly, as I did in my one long-ago visit. The more recent memory of Martin Luther King Jr.’s speech on the steps of the Memorial, though of course something that happened well before my birth, also weighs strongly in the mind. I am very glad to have gone, even if only the once so far.

the reflecting pool was frozen over. some idiot was trying to slide around on it. he fell and hurt his neck. after giving him medical attention, they arrested him.

This is a powerful spot in my opinion. I just kept thinking about Dr. Martin Luther King’s speech. I totally enjoy the magnificance of this memorial and the writings on the wall. I went there in my Junior year in high school. :)
