World War II Memorial
Worth visiting!
The first time I went to this place
I could not think of anyone to look up on the registry. After I returned home my family and I added 3 veterans to the online registry.

I loved my previous nocturnal visits to this monument. It is beautifully illuminated. This was my first visit during the daytime.
This monument makes me think about a great period in history and the many people who made so many sacrifices of all kinds in order to build a better world.
The monument itself recognizes each of the (then) 48 states and US territories. It also recognizes many of the great campaigns in both the European and Pacific theaters of the war.
The setting of the memorial, between the Washington Monument and the Reflecting Pool, with the Lincoln Memorial, further in the distance is an ideal location. It is a peaceful, reflective, and happy place.

I’ve been to several WW2 memorials but I think this was my first one in the USA and I’m from here. I liked the quotes, that the states and territories were recognized, as well as locations of the war. I found this memorial much more moving after the recent death of my grandfather, a WW2 veteran. The memorial is big and scenic but I know others didn’t like it (controversy when it was built that it would obstruct the view).

It took me awhile to get used to this memorial. It’s huge, and brackets the Washington Monument oddly when you’re at the Lincoln Memorial.
I prefer minimalism, so the Grandness of this Memorial is a little disconcerting for me. But it’s grown on me. For those who gave their lives to this war, they deserve something grand and beautiful.

I’ve been to DC multiple times but this is still one of my favorite memorials. I attended the groundbreaking ceremony when I was in middle school and saw it a week before the dedication. The architects did a good job in not really disturbing the mall.

Was the week before it opened. As I had family that fought in the war, I found it quite a lovely memorial. I also think they did a great job of adding this new memorial to the landscape.

I really want to go here and see this place. It’s hard for me to imagine the sacrifice that so many people did for us. I have read and studied a lot about World War II. I went to DC a few years ago to see the Vietnam Memorial.. that was amazing. I can only imagine this one.
