Deep sea fishing

Great Halibut fishing while I was here. Caught 1 90+ lb. halibut and 2 smaller ones in the 40 lb range. Couple a rockfish too – great eating.

A tip I have about this place

Absolutely my favorite place in Alaska! So much to do and so many beautiful sites to see! For excellent pizza in a more formal atmosphere try Fat Olive’s, and for a more casual atmosphere there’s Starvin’ Marvin’s on the water. The first Friday of every month is the art crawl. All the galleries are open and usually there are hors de ouvres and wine. There’s some great fish and chips places along the spit too. I can’t wait to go back!

Untitled

Homer is a cultural haven for artsy, liberal Alaskans. If you’re a tourist, avoid the Spit, unless you want leave weighted down with several pounds of salmon- and crab-themed memorabilia.

But can I make a living here?

Beautiful location. I’d love to base my seaplane on Lake Beluga, but will there be enough business?

Civilized Wilderness

I lived here on and off for a couple years. That was a few years ago but I suspect it’s still a great place to spend a bit of time. There’s sooooooo much to see if you look with the right eyes.

This is my home

I was born here. Homer is also known as the Shan-gri-la of Alaska.

There is quite a bit to do here really. You wouldn’t think that about a town of 3,500 people at the end of the U.S. highway.

Great food abounds, all sorts of adventures both in Homer and across the bay in Kachemak Sate Park, fantastic local live theatre, friendly people, fun festivals, art exhibits and of course all the regular fishing and outdoors activities as well.

When you go, try the summertime first. Then go back during the winter for a totally new experience.

Alaska is an amazing place and Homer is the epitomy of this.

Ask me anything about this great place “where the land ends and the sea begins.”

I want to visit friends

I know a couple who live in Homer with their daughter Zoey. I’ve traveled to places like Equador and Costa Rica with these people and I miss them!
So, since the town is rather small, if anyone makes it there and runs into Dwane or Jane Tollufsrude (sp?), say hi for Molly!

Quiet little town

We were in Homer at about 11pm at night in June 05 and it was quiet, quaint and saw 2 or 3 moose & about 50+ bald eagles while we were there. The decent down the main road into the town was absolutley gorgeous!
