Kölner Dom aka: Cologne Cathedral

Once you start walking you have to keep going because there are people behind you. But it’s a great view at the top. It would have been even better on a clear day.

Definitely make the journey to the top! It’s a bit of a dizzy one, and a tiring one, but worth it!

I was with a man I thought I might marry – he turned out to be a total jerk when he was around his family (from Xanten, a little north of Cologne/Koln). the Church was undergoing some renovations (this was 1997), and it was soooo dark, and the stained glass almost SANG with the lights coming through it! Loved it, but “he” was a loser. Nice trip, though.

a good hostel to go is next to the dom, email for directions, but the main club scene is along the streets around Rudolfplatz, if bars are your game then make sure to check around the river as places were open everywhere there…. around the central cathedral there are plenty of places to shop, definitely worth a watch… the clubs tend to be very picky with outsiders… make sure there are plenty of females with you and you will be fine

Pretty and very gothic cathedral, certainly worth the visit. We parked in the parking underneath the cathedral (cheap too), so it was really easy to drop by. According to a leaflet I picked up, some of the windows were recently reset with new stained glass. All stained glass windows were very beautiful indeed. Shopping streets and bars are near too.

Cologne has been able to sustain a kind of Bohemian-Village Character, which makes it very lovable IMHO. This is the Case in the University Section of Town around Zülpicher Str., Belgian Quarter, Südstadt (Severin Str). Many original Small Shops, eating Places, and Kneipen (Pubs) give the City a vibrant lively Spirit.

This cathedral is a shrine to the 3 Wise Men that visited the baby Jesus.

absolutely breathtaking. the views are unbeatable. the steps up suck.

Really impressive building. The atmosphere made me light a candle in the church for the first time.

It’s also a very short and pleasant walk from a nearby parking garage. So now, you’ve no excuse not to visit.
