Yoyogi Park

I loved Yoyogi Park. Japan is seriously beautiful in the Fall when the leaves on the trees are on fire in color. the colors are more vivid than are in the Northeast US and you’ll get a taste of some of this in the park.

In Yoyogi is the Meiji Shrine, where you’ll find people there getting married and the brides’ mother and party in beautiful Black kimono’s with this exquisite golden and silver embroidery. – this seemed to be the norm/common wedding party dress (I could be wrong.)

If you take a certain exit from Yoyogi park, you are at the Harajuku stop. (Harajuku, Harajuku Desu!) Weirdly enough I never really saw any of the Harajuku get-ups and outfits that the area is known for. Really Weird! http://static.twoday.net/jupe/images/harajuku_girls.jpg

Why I recommend this place to locals

I live near Yoyogi-koen. Close to Shibuya, but so far away from the crowds. How can you miss?

A review of this place

wonderful! one of my favourite places in the whole world. any weekend night when it’s warmish, and often even when it’s coldish, you can find loadds of different, strange parties going on. during the day, there are drummers, sometimes dancers, and always always somebody doing something that you’ve never seen before…and just a stone’s throw from shibuya.

Description

A nice break from the crowds. The path through the park is very wide. Locals visit too.

The huge entrance near Harajuku Station is where the cosplay crowd gathers. Cosplayers, whether they be dressed as dolls or goth would pull a little suitcase – for a change of clothes perhaps.

At another entrance one can see a dozen food stalls and some buskers. The weekend I went I saw some men mid 20s plus with elvis hair, leather pants and coat, dancing the twist. There was a girl in a poodle skirt swing dancing too. They with yell out a shrill once in a while. Music was from an 80s stereo.
