The beginning of the silk road is in my city, Xi’an, and the last time I saw it was on a bus on my way to the airport. I happened to be reading The Travels of Marco Polo as we were passing the silk road monument I realized that he had been there and here I was 700 years later in the same spot reading his book. It was a pretty cool feeling.over 6 years ago
The Silk Road aka: 丝绸之路Incense Route. The Silk Road is featured on the lists 400 Places on Earth You Have To Go and Around the world.
I just came back from the silk road, it is really amazing!! Along the road there are a lot to see, which are not like anything that I have seen before, it was like a completely different world… all the major attractions along the road are worth visiting: Dunhuang, Jiayuguan, Urumqi, Lanzhou… And I just can’t help wondering that my motherland is really an AMAZING country!!!
I love it!
Beijing to Kashgar…a long way, but an incredible trip. Slide down the sand dunes in Dunhuang. The summer toboggan experience, if you will. Karakul Lake onwards from Kashgar is breathtaking, a little piece of heaven on earth. Be prepared for some rough terrain though. And bring your passport, even if just day-tripping from Kashgar. There is a checkpoint in the mountains that you don’t want to be turned away from after making the 4plus hour journey on very bad roads from Kashgar. I had to hitchhike solo to make it into Pakistan because the people I originally shared the ride with had to go back!over 7 years ago
so i’ve decided that my honeymoon is going to be an amazing silk road adventure. from the heartland of my beautiful china all the way through central asia and up to italy.
camel and/or caravan is the preferred mode of transportation, but not necessary.
and being single, seventeen, and not in the least incline to get married, it is an excellent decision on my part :)
ha. i should get married for the sole purpose of travelling the silk road.over 7 years ago
I had the time of my life. I met the most amazing people. I went to places from 40 degree celcius to -5 degrees. I went from the second lowest point on earth to mountains at 3000 meters above the sea level. The views are dramatic, the food was great… but most importantly, the people made it all worth it!over 7 years ago
