After graduating high school in Harrisburg, I came up to RIT to pursue my bachelor’s degree. Somehow I never managed to leave good ol’ Rottonweather.

RIT offers such a variety of majors – photography, jewelry making, business, mechanical engineering, IT, computer science, pre-Med, deaf studies… – that the community is full of interesting people and activities. It is close to a mid-size city that has professional theater, soccer, orchestra, and a range of complementary colleges. With approximately 15,000 students at all levels, it is large enough to be a university (with a draw for national speakers and acts) and small enough to get to know well. If you are looking for HUGE or intimate campus, RIT is not for you.
It is located in the Northeast with all the pluses and minuses of the range of weather patterns. Some snow, but not a lot.
It runs on a quarter system so if you plan to visit know that the place is a ghost town (student-wise) in late November, late February, early June, and late August.

I spent too many years of my life here, if I could never see a brick again, I would be happy…

Ive heard the campus referred to as the Russian Tractor Factory…lots of brick and like most of the other NY college campus layouts it’s very, very windy in the winter. The people are friendly though, unlike those in the rest of the city. Expect to have a car, its too hard to get off campus without one.

RIT is a good school, but it’s not going to be interesting for someone visiting Rochester.

I’m a graduate of Rochester Institute of Technology in 2004. I enjoyed my years there. I miss the campus and its lifestyle. I don’t however, miss the snow. :)
