Monterey Bay Aquarium

This is the best aquarium I have ever been to, and I have been to a great many of them all of the country, and even some in other countries.

They have a great white shark there right now, a rarity!

Enjoy the drive on Hwy 1 to get here, and then head south to Carmel and Big Sur.

This is the place where I fell in love with the cute sea otters!!

i think i was in fifth grade when i was there, but i remember it being quite impressive.

No question of it! I don’t go as often as I should, so I must correct that. You’ve got the crowd pleasers like the otters - who are just flat out wonderful - but beyond all the high profile stuff, it’s lovely to see a sense of how the bay itself functions as a whole ecosystem, and how that is constantly researched and studied. Living science, as it were, presented in a way that’s accessible to everyone—not that most aquariums don’t have this as a goal, but it’s clearer here than most.

The Monterey Bay Aquarium is one of my absolute favorite places to visit, ever. I’ve been twice, and this place never ceases to take my breath away. PLEASE, if you have any appreciation for marine life, PLEASE visit here! It really is a must.
