Varadero has all the things you would expect of a package holiday destination, but without the americans. Red skinned sizzling tourists, drunken sleezy older guys hitting on young women, clear waters, and long sandy beaches. There are virtually no cubans other than behind reception, or bars, or cleaing your room, and the cigars are generally overpriced.
Sure stay a while if you want to sit in the sun and drink rum. If you want to see cuba, then get out of Varadero and out around the rest of the country.

If you like warm, sunny weather, beautiful sandy beaches, clear blue oceans then go to CUBA. The people are so friendly and it is so beautiful. I feel bad for Americans who cannot experience this beautiful place.

After 10 days in Havana this place was package holiday hell. Confined to our all inclusive compound we greatly missed the excitement, culture, sights, sounds and smells of real cuba.
The staff were great the beaches were beautiful but it could have been anywhere.

so i am going to Varadero, Cuba, in exactly 105 days. i’ll be there for a week, over new years, and i’m really really excited.
it hadn’t really sunk in yet, but then i was on this site, looking at some of the pictures people have taken of cuba, and holy crap. it looks gorgeous. now i totally can’t wait.

i went to varadero, cuba once and really enjoyed it. it’s very cheap and very beautiful but if the weather is not cooperative, there isn’t a whole lot to do. i stayed at coralia playa de oro and if i were to go back to cuba, i would more than likely stay at the same hotel. i’ve heard some bad things about hotels in cuba and this one couldnt have been much better. the food isn’t GREAT, but it’s decent. personally, i wouldn’t want to go to cuba for more than one week as there isn’t a whole lot to do other than sit on the beach and drink (unless you take excursions). but to each is own! we took the katamaran tour ($70 US) which was very fun but a little pricey. if you’re looking for nothing but a cheap, relaxing trip, this is the place to go.

There are many “all inclusive” resorts in Varadero (about 2 hours by car from Havana). There are beautiful white sand beaches here with clear blue water. Highly recommended.
