Sagada

Worth visiting!

The last time I went to this place

I went last November 2008. I stayed at the Canaway Rest House and I highly recommend it! The couple who lives there are absolutely charming and they really make you feel welcome. In the morning they provide complimentary mountain tea in the common room right next to your room.
It is a small place, but if you can get a room, stay there! It just opened up so the place is new and clean and the prices are one of the cheapest in Sagada. For my full size bed with a bathroom and hot water, cost about $6 USD. I don’t know if the price is still the same, but it’s still a great place.

Tell them Mai told you about the place! =)

A tip I have about this place

Once you’ve been to Sagada.. you wouldn’t mind the 14hrs travel just to be in this place again. I’ve met wonderful people in Sagada and Sumaguing Cave is something I’ll never trade in for any other caves I’ve ever been. I’ve seen Jenolan Cave in Austraia but the experience Sumaguing has to offer is something one should not miss.

A tip I have about this place

It takes about 8 hours bus travel from Baguio to reach Sagada. The last Dangwa Bus in baguio leaves at 9am at the baguio terminal. Advice to take the first trip (6am) to get to Sagada after lunch.

You’ll have time to rest when you reach the place of your choice (St joseph’s used to be the most popular if you’re a big group. Other log cabins are safe but you have to check some weird holes in between the walls haha!)

Must try mountain tea, heaping mountain rice meals, vegetable like chopseuy, cauliflower and broccoli serving is very generous…which is good if you love veggies.

Evening is cold anytime of the year. must bring headcover gear especially before going to sleep…

Rainy Weather:
Not ideal to travel on rainy days…especially during storm! I went there last time out of sheer solo adventure and the road was like scary: the bus ahead of us fell off the cliff! Stranded for 4 hours to clear the road. Then there are unexpected landslides too during rainy season..etc.
In sagada, the caves are more slippery and the pathwalks become damp and muddy. Bring heavy duty walking sandals (open shoes are easier to clean).

Oh i wish everyone could visit this place while it’s still intact…anyway for more tips, email me :-) ten.mail at gmail dot com.

The first time I went to this place

Just got back from Sagada and I’m already missing it! Loved the chilly air, the absolutely yummy food a Yoghurt House, and the thrill of being able to “conquer” the Sumaging Cave. We spent only a day and a half in the Sagada, but it was enough to fall in love with the place.

Some Must Do’s in Sagada:
Conquer Sumaging Cave and dive into the cave’s pool
Ride on top of a Jeepney to appreciate the view
Eat at Yoghurt House
Drink their local Mountain Tea to refresh and warm the spirit
Drink their local Arrabica coffee
Buy some cinnamon rolls at the local bakeshop
Visit Echo Valley and vocalize

I’m sure a missed a lot of Sagada’s other wonders, so I’m definitely going back.
