A shit hole indeed

Hey I agree with the fact that the city is a money pit that attracts all walks of life, and yes a vast quantity of the population is Newfoundlanders. But referring to bizziegurl’s response, you have no idea what it’s like in newfoundland so don’t let your uneducated ignorance spill onto the pages of these sites. Our province does not see the magnitude of crime that exists out here. You can go on George street at the busiest time of year with thousands of people and you might see a fight. But here..a simple pub across the street will involve cops every night of the week, and a murder or two is just something that might come with it. People leave an area of economic instability to find a better, promising future..the nature of mankind honey! We’re just here to make money and get the fuck out.

This place sucks!

I live here. Have for the past 7 years. It is hands down the armpit of the universe. Yah…you can buy a trailer for $320,000 if you are lucky. But that is just for the trailer, that doesn’t include the cost of the postage stamp sized piece of property it sits on. You get to buy that separately. We pay $4250.00 for a tiny little house that has no grass, so when it rains the back yard is one big mud puddle, and the basement bedroom is so cold it is unfit to live in it. People ask why don’t we buy. Good question. If the basic housing prices were sitting over $600,000 that would be great. The people are rude, there is no such thing as customer service, the place is littered with homeless people and garbage, like I mean tons of garbage. You can’t go walking through the pathetic mall without passing every second teenager pushing a baby carriage. The teenage boys dress like they are some kind of Eminem wanna be, and the girls look like something out of a Jay Z video. The women cheat on their men when they are on night shift, and the men cheat on their women when they “go sledding with the boys”. All this only tells me one thing. Most of the population here is Newfie. If they treat McMurray like this, than Newfoundland must suck. So why don’t I just pack up and move you ask! I am counting down the days now when my son graduates from high school and I can move back to reality. Hopefully somewhere where the city actually builds a dog park that has four sides.

Why I recommend this place to visitors

i have to say “worth visiting” because you really have to see it to believe it. And (overlooking the massive oilsands industrial operations) canada’s largest national park is right there, and the boreal forest is pretty darned cool all on it’s own….

News about this place

ok… Fort McMurray is kinda gross, and the people always are too busy to smile or thank you or help you at a department store (i’m talking about the employees there)
if you have to go there, or plan to anyways… you’ll notice the highway (63) is so busy, and everybody is always trying to leave the place.
By the plants (Syncrude and Suncor) there are a couple of wildlife places: one being the buffalo (which are constantly dying and getting sick with the fumes) and then the wildlife one (where they all HAVE died since the pr can’t force THOSE animals to stay there.)
You wanna see buffalo? go to a zoo. They’re treated better (believe it or not)

A review of this place: This down is the epitome of unlivable

This is probably the worst town in Canada. It’s a small secluded town with big-town crime.

I live here, and I can safely say I wish I could leave.

This is the worst town to work in because no matter how much you make, everything is proportionately as expensive as anywhere else in Canada. A great example of this would be that the average trailer in Fort Mcmurray is $320,000, and the average one room apartment is $1,200 a month.

It’s a horrible city to raise your kids in because the schools a horrible, and lack proper funding and care. The high schools are havens for drug addicts.

It’s a horrible place to live. The town is extremely noisy, the people are rude, the services are unfriendly and the crime is extremely high for such a small town. Not too long ago, a problem at at Syncrudes UE-1 project caused the whole time to smell like cat urine, and it was very unpleasant. This persisted for days until Syncrude was told by Health Canada to shut UE-1 down.

The only thing I would recommend about this city is to stay away from it. There are plenty of other places to make money.

A review of this place: Not a good place to stay

I was born and raised in this town, and I still live here. The town was nice when I was younger, but now it’s bursting at the seams and going downhill. A town meant for 30,000 people or so now has close to 75,000 people. The roads here are comparable to those seen in third-world countries and the majority of the local populace are down-right rude and inconsiderate (Especially my neighbours). The housing is beyond crazy, and one can be paying $500,000 (give or take) for a three bedroom dollhouse. Although one can make alot of money here, it’s not worth all the money in the world to move here and start calling this place home. In my opinion, anybody who’d leave their hometown for this hellhole is foolish. It’s a dank and boring boomtown, and I’m beyond estatic that I’m finally leaving this dump in 2007. Good riddance!

The snow is nice, but

...but otherwise Fort is a typical industrial city with giant stores all over downtown. Can you believe that there is only one Starbucks here, and it is located in Safeway? Talk about Starbucks world’s domination.:)
Nature smooths the toughness of the city if you can access it…
Well, the good thing is that if you relocate to Fort McMurray and your friends come visit you, then you can say that they are for real!
