Eat at Maiyas and the Blue Havelina

People ask me all the time why this is on my list. I confess that initially I added it simply because Marfa was what I called myself as a child (before I could pronounce the “th” sound).

But then when I started to read about it – the lights, the art, the small town feel, I became very serious about going here. It may still be a ways off, but it’s at least on my list, which is a start!

I’ve wanted to visit Marfa for more than twenty years after I read about the Marfa lights. I finally visited, ready to believe that they were just a hoax. After being there for only about 10 minutes more then twenty lights appeared. I watched them chase each other through my binoculars for almost an hour. No way that car lights can do that. It was pretty amazing.

The night I went here we did not get to see the infamous “Marfa Lights” :-(

Marfa is still charming and not yet overrun by crazy art loving hipster. The Chinati Foundation alone is worth the visit.

The lights look like parking lights. The dull orange kind. I only saw it during the night, I would want to go back during the day to see what’s out there.

Since putting this goal on my list, I have become increasingly obsessed. It’s getting moved up in priority!

I love the works of Donald Judd, and visiting Marfa has been my dream for years.

..and I did it. I NEEEDED to check out Marfa after reading too many articles about Donald Judd and his compound.

The people were pretty nice, and super eccentric.. Most of them at least. Worth the long drive out there.
