Gotta get to the other side...

Lake Michigan makes it worth the while! Suggestion, go to the bathroom before you head on up!

beautiful

just wandered around for hours. had to leave when the sun started to set. looking out at lake Michigan only to see a few islands breaking the water streching all the way to the horizon is amaizing. left feeling slightly conflicted though. glad i got to see it, but all the people passing through has been causing sand to drift and wrecking havoc with the natural fauna :(
not glad to be a part of that

Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore

I’ve gone to this area of Michigan almost every summer of my life, and love it! Although I’ve moved from the Midwest to Southern California, I’m still struck by how beatiful this part of Michigan is whenever I go! Palm trees on the Pacific don’t necessarily beat the rolling hills, forests, sand dunes, orchards, little towns, and lake.

One of my favorite things about Sleeping Bear, aside from its obvious beauty and magnitude, is that it’s very much alive. A sign posted near the base of the dune climb tells you to pick a tree or shrub and then re-visit it in several years. The dunes move and swallow up land around it all the time. At some point they’re going to have to relocate that sign…
