Gainesville

I am in the system now. G’ville’s summers are crazy rainy. This town is really into football, and you may get a little tired of seeing so much orange. Both schools are pretty good, I went to U of F so I can’t say anything about Santa Fe. Gainesville is quite mellow (ahem…dead) over the summer.

Lived for almost 5 years in Gainesville while I did my degree. Really nice. I don’t know how valuable my tips are going to be since it’s been a while since I’ve been there…but I’d be happy to try and answer any questions about Gainesville or the University of Florida.

I had a lot of firsts in Gainesville and it will forever be a source of good and bad nostalgia for me.

Gainesville is home to the well-known University of Florida and the lesser-known Santa Fe Community College, both great places for education… and more. Just ask anyone who has attended either!

U of F used to have an annual event known as Gator Growl, a nightime Bacchanalian event with live bands and a multitude of kegs that never seemed to stop flowing. Some claim that the streaking craze started at one of these, but who knows…

I’ve been there… everything is orange and blue. Blah.

I live here…too much football…

cute collge town, but otherwise there’s nothing to see.

I lived in Gainesville for three years while I was going to UF. It’s a good place for getting drunk and going to football games, I suppose. There’s some decent food around, too.

But the city is basically a life support machine for the university; it’s a college town around a very, very big college. I can’t help but think that if UF were magically teleported to a bigger city, it would become several times as powerful academically, and also cause Gainesville to shrivel up into a tiny horse-trading village.

I heard they closed Burrito Brothers. That’s just sad.

Born and raised in Tallahassee. G’ville is good place to move to when you just gotta get away from the home town. Not too far, not too big, not too anything.

I grew up here. It’s the best, and I’m hoping to start a music life in this town. I’ll add that to my list tomarow.
