Sanibel Island

I have been here several times. The place is great especially in October. There aren’t mant tourists and the weather is in the high 80’s. If you are looking for a quiet and relaxing vacation, this is the place but if you are looking for a lot of action, you might not want to go here.

Every summer, my family go to Sanibel Island for a whole week. This place is beautiful! Great place to bike ride and play golf. Great restaurants too!

I love Sanibel Island! I have visited Sanibel Island 3 times in the last 1-1/2 years and will be returning next month in October. I love staying at Oceans Reach Condos. I fall asleep each night to the sound of the water from the Gulf. The shells are amazing and I spend all my days and yes, some nights at low tide with a flashlight, trying to find the ultimate shell for my growing collection. I have also stayed at the ‘Tween the Waters resort on Captiva Island but I do prefer the Oceans Reach Condos for my visits.

Sanibel is a great place to unwind, especially if you can rent something right on the beach. Because of the toll to get onto the island, there aren’t as many tourists/crowds. Good shelling. Rent a bike and tour the Ding Darling Wildlife refuge-you might run across an alligator or two. And go to Doc Fords for a Cubano sandwich and a pina colada. Mmmm… yum. The Island Cow also has really good food.

The beaches are lovely, the water is nice, the surroundings are great, and it is not polluted. I had a great time, just make sure you go when the red tide is OUT.

I visited Sanibel Island in July 2006. While the $6.00 tax to get across the bridge was rather irritating at times, I adored the island. I had a condo right on the beach and it literally took me 2 minutes to get onto the shore…it was most beautiful at night when everyone walked along the beach…it was empty at 11:00 at night, which was nice because people can just sit and listen to the waves…I was there right before the Red Tide started, and it actually started on my last day there, so it was good timing.

The beach was beautiful, but that white sand is really ground up seashells! OUCH on your toes!

I used to live locally and work on the island. It was cool to drive across the causeway every day and see dolphins jumping out of the water. The tourists got a little annoying, but after a while you learn how to avoid them. I haven’t been out there since Hurricane Charley took down all the beatiful tress on Periwinkle Way, but I still have fond memories of the island, even though the toll is now $6.00.

My favorite shelling beach is Sanibel Island, FL. If you go in early July you will be treated to thousands of mating sand dollars! Live sand dollars are actually grey and flexible. Wear water socks, shells are everywhere!

The toll might see a little extreme to get onto the island but it is totally worth each and every penny. Beautiful beaches and scenery. Love the lighthouse.
