Los Alamos

Los Alamos is one of those places you have to be patient with as a visitor. Give it a chance and you may be surprised.

I just got back from visiting family in White Rock. My uncle and his oldest son work for Los Alamos labs and it’s a fascinating place. I got a peak into the labs themselves on this particular trip…something not many “civilians” get. I love visiting the Pueblos and there are views that are absolutely breathtaking.

Maybe not a prime vacation resort (!!!) but worth a few miles detour to Parc Bandelier. Breathtaking views over the Rio Grande.

What a hell hole. The only saving grace was the spectacular Anasazi cave dwellings located nearby.

I grew up in Los Alamos (mostly). Things to recommend are:

• driving to the Via Grande
• skiing at Pajarito (if there is snow)
• watching the film “The Town that Never Was” as the Bradbury Science Museum

The town was rocked by a tragic fire in 2000, and the mountains still look singed. There are still some beutiful views though.

It is an amazing town with wounderful people. It is especially beautiful in the late spring when everything is abloom.

A learning experience…
