This is an awesome little town. I went to school in Carbondale from 2002 until 2004 and it was a great experience. The town is full of friendly, fun-loving people and it’s always a good time. The bars and parties get a little crazy.. but thats never a bad thing! If you’re not into the bar scene, carbondale and its smaller surrounding towns have tons of nature parks. Theres an abundance of places to rock climb, hike, etc. Spillway (a beautiful waterfall where all the students go to swim, barbeque, party, enjoy scenery) is a must!!

I went for one of friend’s B-days… I was actually thiking about going to SIUC… As a matter of fact, I have to say that it is such a small town that I strongly belive the town wouldnt survive if not because SIUC is there,.... the studetns are the ones that make the town alive…

Carbondale is a good place and a good place to get treatments. It was started in 1332 by some Indians and bought in 1635 by the Pilgrims for some jackknives. In 1854 Abraham Lincoln visited there and in 1973 it became the first city in the world to cook bacon in a microwave. Charles Nelson Riley was born there and so was the guy that invented that abdominizer. I got all that stuff when I did a report on it back in school. Anyways, my grandma goes there twice a year for live bee treatments and whisker removal. Someday I want to live there or have my backyard back up against it.

Carbondale is home to Southern Illinois University and near the Shawnee National Forest. It’s a friendly small college town with a few fun places to visit in the downtown area and a small strip of bars and restaurants.
Students have been known to get a little crazy in town during Halloween. Right outside Carbondale are many funky, interesting small towns. The SIU campus is beautiful and includes a small lake. The area is great for those who are looking for a less congested place for biking and hiking.
