Wall Drug

South Dakota is a boring state to drive through but they try their best by putting up signs to tell you to go to Wall Drug. Ice water 5 cents! See the jackalope! Only 87 miles to Wall Drug! After a while it starts to get exciting and you have to go, because otherwise you’ll just think about it for the rest of your drive across South Dakota. Besides, there’s a T-Rex.

cheesy, sleazy

You really have to stop for at least a little while…though it is a total tourist trap.

When I was little I used to think the “Free Ice Water” gimmick was really cool.

I loved it. I was only 11 and it’s been 11 years now, but I remember that whole trip quite fondly. Yeah it’s cheesy and has a jackelope… but it’s a great piece of nostaligia… and what are we if we don’t have that right?

I think its a great place to stop but i acknowledge it’s not for everybody… it beats the largest ball of twine or the lace and textiles museum though!

The whole state is covered in bill boards for this tacky tourist trap. That’s how you know you are in South Dakota.

The ice water sucks, the coffee is wretched and as far as the rest of it goes…its a tourist trap.

This place is crazy! and if you’re going, you should make sure to zero your odometer so you know how far from home you are!!

Yeah, it’s a tourist trap, but where else are you going to stop in this part of SD? Besides they still give out free ice water and it’s a huge place so you can waste some time wandering.

Totally cheesy place but lots of fun…it’s been about 10 years since I’ve been…but I’m sure it’s still good cheesy fun!

Wall drug is not for everyone, I will admit that! It is mostly just a tourist stop to buy trinkets and take a break from the road. For me, though, it’s a tradition. I always stop there on my way to the Black Hills. The trip just wouldn’t be the same without it! It has become a favorite tradition with my kids as well, and I’m sure it will with their chidren, too! If you ever have the chance to stop, do it! If for no other reason, just to say you did it!
