A review of this place: My favorite!

I found the “true” Paris I had been searching for in this area! Steep, narrow winding streets, cafes, cabarets etc… fascinating!

Soo touristy...

...but you can see why. It really is so pretty and there are still corners that haven’t quite been overrun yet. This is actually somewhere I would love to live when I come back to Paris.

A tip I have about this place

definitely one of the more touristy places in the city, but absolutely my favorite place on earth. montmartre is it’s own city inside the city.

A review of this place

The montmartre area is wonderful—it is laidback, has an eclectic feel, and there is a sea of artists displaying their works. I recommend making the time to have lunch there, see sacre couer, and stroll through the artist market.

Visit on a Saturday to see working artists set up in a local square and don’t forget to roam the cemetery to find the tombs of Degas, Berlioz and others. This area also boasts the Sacre Coeur which is beautiful as well as the Moulin Rouge! We only looked from the outside…:(

Ride the funicular railway to the top of the butte & tour Sacre Coeur Basilica. Don’t miss the outdoor market where local artists display their work for sale and enjoy a bite to eat in one of the little bistros. Then stroll down the hill along Rue des Saules to one of the most charming areas on the butte, Vigne du Clos Montmartre. This is the last cultivated vineyard in Paris. It produces about 500 bottles each year. The limited bottling of “Vin du Clos”-a Gamay-is sold at an annual benefit auction for the elderly of Montmartre. Where Rue St. Vincent and Rue des Saules intersect stands “au Cabaret du Lapin Agile”. This cabaret is instantly recognized by its paint scheme of pink & adorned with green shutters on the windows. The charming sign, painted by Andre Gill of the “Nimble Rabbit” escaping from the pot, must be one of the most photographed signs in Paris!

Alone but...

I spent three days in Paris alone and Montmartre was one of my favorite places. The hospitality was beyond my expectations. I was physically alone but surrounded and approached by a welcoming community.

Full of atmosphere

I stayed in a rather shabby little hotel at the base of the hill. It was wonderful to mingle with the locals in the park, neighbourhood shops, and markets away from the main tourist drag. Also fantastic to walk up the hill to Sacre Coeur the evening I arrived and look out over the city.
Magnifique!
