Corn Palace

But if you’re not…don’t go out of your way…it’s totally cheesy but kind of cool

It’s a bit corny, but can only be appreciated when viewed up close and in person.

BTW, I love corn in general, so don’t think I’m a hater.

the Corn Palace was built as a monument to the greatness of Corn. This isn’t a place to buid a vacation around, but one of many unique features of the area. Plus, you can get a squashed penny, and have your picture taken with your head on a stalk of corn. Good, old-fashioned road trip America type fun. Stop here on your way to the Badlands!

Murals on the exterior are different every year. (You can see the different years in post cards.) We were driving by in autumn ‘05 on a road trip from Seattle to Chicago and stopped by in the early afternoon, sunny day. Good time for taking pictures but the streets outside make it very difficult to get a shot of the full facade without a wide angle lens. Parts of the design were still under construction with a few missing pieces of cobs. Inside is surprisingly a large sports arena.

Memorable in its lameness. Why not.

I love to watch the guys shooting the birds that were pecking away at the corn…bb gun works wonders. Have a beer across the street and relax. It’s Mitchell,,,titty bar there too

Not too exciting. Not exciting at all, in fact.

Unless you’re really into corn art, I wouldn’t go out of the way to stop here. If you’re passing by anyway, you might as well stop and see it.

Worth driving past. There’s a gift shop inside, and not much else.
