Why I want to go to this place

I love museums. Plus, I now live only 2 blocks away; so there’s really no excuse not to go.

Worth visiting!

The first time I went to this place

I was in 4th grade. My family had a tradition of taking turns deciding where to visit on Saturday afternoon. It was my turn to pick a destination for our family & thought it would be fun to go to a museum as I had never been to one. I looked it up in the phone book and chose the Frye. That was my start with the world of art & has become My FAVORITE museum in Seattle! Thank goodness for the Fryes & their forward thinking to provide people with such a wonderful gift. It is free to get in but I always give a donation each time I visit.

A tip I have about this place

This museum is does not charge admission. The building is beautiful. The exhibits are uneven but often interesting. Nice cafe and gift shop.

good stuff all around

I really like some of the permanent collection, and I saw an absolutely amazing NSK exhibit here. And got a gorgeous Berlin travel guide in the bookshop. I still have yet to try the cafe.

Free culture

The Frye is small and has free admission and somehow manages to put on good special exhibitions regularly. The permanent collection is very ho-hum, lots of 19th century German realists.

In the last few months I saw the amazing Joseph Park show and some really cool but disturbing paintings by Mark Ryden.

They often present interesting films and musical performances.

The Frye is centrally located in Seattle’s First Hill neighborhood, a short walk from downtown.
