A tip I have about this place

Interestingly enough, the best way to see Manhattan is to go to Jersey City. I went for a business trip and ended up staying at a Marriott right on the water, with a beautiful view of the Manhattan skyline and Ellis Island. Right outside and about fifty feet away was the train, which takes you to the old World Trade Center station in Manhattan in a three-minute ride- and from there, you can see everything in the city. On top of that, the hotel is in a high-end business district. This means on weekends, the rates are very cheap, it’s not crowded, and there’s never a wait at any of the many good restaurants near the hotel. It’s very much the best of both worlds!

A tip I have about this place

You MUST understand the subway system! Under manhattan are miles and miles of tracks and they will virtually lead you anywhere in the city. As long as you understand how to follow the line and not get confused, you’re good. If you’re visiting for a day or a week, buy the fun pass metrocards, they’ll save you tons of money if you’re travelling around that day. Also, stop by the Disney Store by 5th Ave and 55th St!

Why I recommend this place to visitors

I’ve been lucky enough to be able to visit Manhattan twice, once in summer and once in winter.
The 1st time we went I was worried about all the usual things (I’ve grown up on American TV same as most people my age) and whether there would be much to entertain the kids. We all loved it and found it to be safe, welcoming, quite European in feel and the residents were lovely.
The winter visit was over New Year and with the ice skating at Rockefeller Plaza as well as in Central Park it looked like an amazing film set. The weather was unseasonably mild (the kids were hoping for snow, so that was a slight disappointment for them!). Again, very safe, welcoming and friendly. The only ‘rudeness’ we encountered was in the diners where staff could be a little abrupt.
Would recommend to anyone, it’s great with kids of all ages and there’s something there for everyone. Do go up The Rock – the views are wonderful. The Statten Island ferry is free and the views, again, are fantastic. Central Park is great, the subway is really good once you get used to how it works. MoMA is well worth queuing or getting there early. Shop at Century 21 for some great bargains. Eat Ray’s Pizza and Junior’s cheesecake, drink Brooklyn beer!

How this place changed my life

I love NYC at 4 in the morning… when the streets are empty and you can hear the hum of street sweepers and garbage trucks in the distance. I’ll look up at the buildings, filled with millions of sleeping people, and wonder who they are and what will happen to them. It’s quite humbling.

The first time I went to this place

First visited NYC when I was 13 with my family and fell in love with the place instantly. I’ve visited a few times since then and have always found so many new things to see and do. I last visited this summer and now I’m over 21 I experienced something else the city has to offer…the nightlife! which I have to say is pretty spectacular. Hope to visit again in the near future
