a dream come true

When I found out that I would have to opportunity to travel to Equador and the Galapagos Islands, I knew that I was going to go somewhere incredibly special. I travelled by boat from island to island (I do not remember which ones) while sipping on ice cold drinks nursing a 3rd degree sunburn from laying out for an hour. Walking on those Islands was so amazing to me. I wish I was able to study down there as Darwin once did. The only one drawback, on the flight out to the islands, we were served green eggs on the airplane. There should only be green eggs in storybooks in my opinion!

Trip of a Lifetime!

Spent a week in the Galapagos – Santa Cruz Island with the Giant Tortoises; South Plaza Island with the sea lions, tropical birds, pelicans, marine iguanas, and land iguanas; North Seymour Island with the frigate birds and blue-footed boobies; and Bartalome Island with the sea lions and penguins. What a week! Thank goodness for photographs so I can re-live the adventure.

Why I want to go to this place

I want to go to the Galapagos on a birding trip. I have longed to see the Galapagos from the time I saw Jacques Cousteau on television as a child.

The Galapogos Islands are gorgeous. The islands have so many cool animals that are protected. There are species of birds here that are found no where else. The giant Galapogos turtles are incredible.

The diving here is the best anywhere. I scuba dived with all kinds of sharks, including hammerheads. There were all types of exotic fish, sea horses, starfish, eels, octopi, and rays. There were a lot of sea lions that are playful. We even got to swim with penguins!!!!

If you are looking for 5 star resorts, this is not the place to go. If you like adventure and nature, you need to put this on your list of places to go.

Why I recommend this place to visitors

If you love animals and photography…this is the place to go (2nd only to a safari in Africa)! We visited the islands of Santa Cruz, Genovesa, Espanola, and San Cristobal – they were all different and unique. We also did some diving. Although the diving was cool, the visibility was quite poor but I would still recommend it. We were there in January and the water is quite cold. I would highly recommend wearing a wetsuit & hoodie if diving or even snorkeling.

Why I recommend this place to visitors

For all those who argue that evolution is a theory this is a must go destination. Each island holds its own splendor as it is evolving from a barran lava mass to a lush island. Having a sea lion pup come up and play with the webbing on my fanny pack was a truly amazing experience and opened my eyes to the true relationship that people can have with the animal world when we look to protect them.
