Calais

When you visit Calais you should definitely go to L’Histoire Ancienne. The food is superb and very inexpensive. A big thumbs up!

My first taste of France. I only did some shopping there, but I loved it 9However, it’s nothing compared to other places

My very limited experience of France consists of buying cheap booze here. I hope that’s not the extent of my Francois adventures.

Short visit indeed, but still a nice coastal town.

My only memory of this place is the Mammoth Mart and not understanding what the bloody plaque outside of the city hall said. I really need to work on my French.

This was with my grandpa, who is the worst tourist ever. Seriously. Or, perhaps, the best.

The Chunnel was not quite as terrifying as I had imagined it, being only 11.

Yeah, it’s worth visiting if you want to do cross-channel shopping. Didn’t strike me as a place I’d want to hang around in though.

If you must do Calais, plan it properly. I wound up wandering around the town for hours, waiting for my ferry home with nothing to do.

Actually, that’s being unkind to Weston-super-Mare.

It really is just somewhere to pass through on the way to somewhere else. Ugly concrete architecture, campsite full of English people who make you want to hide your own nationality for fear of being lumped in with them, dirty campsite facilities.

We couldn’t wait to get away, to be honest.

It’s not bad but you need to get in to France or farther along the coast to escape the English booze cruisers
