Why I recommend this place to visitors
This is a great place to visit if you’re in the area. Definitely a lot different than other places I’ve been to!

Don’t miss the cottonwood oasis. we visited there in the evening, and the oasis had a deliciously creepy sort of feel.

I used to go camping out at JT at least once a year when I was younger. It’s like a second home to me. I really ought to go more often.

Be sure to catch at least one Ranger led hike, or lecture! There is so much going on here! Just experience all the nature! Climb a rock, walk a trail, just be… Be aware that temperature flucutates quite a bit there! Bring layers is my best advice!
Can’t wait for our next trip! I’d like to stay about a week next time.

Joshua Tree was so beautiful and the climbing was incredible. Great routes and great bouldering. I loved being able to wake up right next to what I wanted to climb :)

excellent place to hang or just visit for the day when you live in l.a. wild and desolate enough to get away with enough hiking and exploring to keep you entertained. no services to speak of so come prepared.

I’d love to spend some time in Joshua Tree, as well as Death Valley.

When I was a kid I got lost in Joshua Tree. Our cadre was on a day hike and we ended up having to spend the night with almost no gear. We finally got ‘rescued’ around 3-4am by a ranger who had been searching for us. He’d brought a bunch of military rations and we split them up.
We got a fire started, which made the long night a balance between freezing or burning, depending on how close to the fire you laid. When light finally broke, the Ranger marched us out. Thanks rangers!
I bet they have the trails laid out a bit better these days though.

Mission #1 in Joshua Tree National Park: To find the place where Phil Kaufman burned Gram Parsons’ body, & collect sand in a bottle (ie. “Gram’s ashes”) for a friend.

We go here a lot for camping. It’s so beautiful and peaceful. At night there’s tons of stars. It’s not foresty, it’s deserty, but there’s so much more than the eponymous Joshua Tree. Such as, if you’re a big U2 fan you can recreate the famous album cover. There’s also awesome rock climbing and hiking. And the towns of J-Tree and 29 Palms nearby are cute.
